My new friend

With a friend we saved Akinori yesterday from the shop. He (only one fish) was placed in the same tank with tritons.  Look at terrible condition of fins! They was selling him for very high price...
I don't he was trashed by someone to that shop or something else, but I got him immediately.
Now he is living this tank with an ampicillin cure. I am going to buy cute new tank for him after he becomes OK.

 Yay... fish community!

and now for something less happy. One of my fish, my little Red Capped oranda Ron died today. I have no Idea why.

I'm trying not to be really irrationally upset about this. Our family lost our dog (thanks to a speeding car) about 2.5 weeks ago.

So it hits close to home.

My other babies, Neville (my teeeny fantail, so cute) and Hermione (my big, crazy gorgeous fantail) are doing fine. But It sucked losing ron.

Him and Neville shared a tank. Any ideas on what I should do to clean the tank (it's a 5.5 gallon) so that Neville doesn't catch Ron's dead germs and die too?

thanks for everything

Okay, so... I have a female swordtail, and I thought that she was pregnant. Her stomache has gotten larger and a small dark bump has appeared under her belly. This was the case until today, when I saw that the dark bump had moved to the top of her body near her dorsal fin. Can anyone tell me what is going on??

I am about to move my 20 gallon tank to a different location in the room... when I take the water out to move it and then refill it with new water, does the nitrogen cycle start all over again?

I shall tell ya'll about my 40 gal "puffer tank"
It's on the high end of brackish, ph 7.8. I have 5 very fat puffers (puff daddy, bucky, master p, fat larry, and java joe),
4 archer fish (they will shoot things down with their spit!), 2 Scats, 4 mollies (all lyretail 3 black 1 yellow), 2 black fin sharks and 2 loachs that look like mini monsters.

I should be getting a digicam soon so expect plenty pics!

what a neat community... i'm sure that's said enough, so on to what i'm really here for.

i love my betta. his name is napoleon and he dominates his little fish bowl. he's quite moody and loves showing off his pretty red fins. on holidays, napoleon travels in my coffee pot (cleaned mind you).

napoleon likes having his food crushed up, i'm not sure if this is typical among bettas, but he won't eat it any other way, so i oblige. this past week he's been sleeping/resting more than usual and picking at food, though reacting normally otherwise (i'm trying to figure out if that's normal, though, my fish is quite odd regardless).

he also likes dancing to some noisy indie rock.

Fish rock
I was surprised and please to see that was an LJ community for fish lovers!

I've owned fish for many years, and I too spoil them rotten!

I even have an icon for my little glubbers.

Popeye is on the Left. He's a calico Oranda, the biggest one of them all. Lucy is on the right. She's an Oranda with a really cute fat head. I've had Popeye and Lucy for about 2 and a half years now. The little runt on the bottom is Gwennie. I've had her for about 4 months now and she is a calico Rynkin (sp?). She loves to bite my other fish's asses the little bitch! Anyone know how to remedy that?

I look forward to sharing my dorkiness with you guys!!

I got it figured out (I think)
My friend told me that Fishes can die because of the enviroment they lived in. So I guess havin gravel in the tank is somewhat important. Fishes sometimes uses gravel to rub off their dead skin. If there is no gravel, they get depressed and die.... :(

Is it wrong if I dont put any gravel and plants in my fish tank?

ok, i had a stalk of baboo in Larrey's bowl (which both of my roommates had done for some time and the bamboo was just fine) and at first the stalk started to turn yellow a bit and then bruise and then it was all yellow. I don't think this affected larrey at all because all he knows is there's one less thing to hide behind now. I had my friend Ben trim down the bamboo hoping it would take up more water that way, but now me thinks it's taking up too much water (it's no longer in larrey's bowl it's in a seperate dish now). what do you think?

i got another snail today...
he looks like a p.canaliata..the dreaded plant eater...glad all my plants are plastic..
he is a pretty golden /creme color...
i need a name for him...
any suggestions?

oh yeah and all of the walmarts in the new orleans area are cleaning out their 2,3, and 5 gallon tanks for 10-15 bucks each so i'm thinking... maybe they are doing it all over the country... so if you want a small aquarium...check your local walmart...

So, I have 3 normal, regualr ol' goldfish, that cost me 12 cents apiece! Their are a rock group, called SpunkY Fish and The Juniors...well, more of a dance trio. They do like to dance :) And the cat doesn't even try to eat them...that makes me happy.
I got the tank 2 years ago, and the original fish died...but it was a funny experience buying it all. I named the fish after the three people that were there to buy them. Then I got back to my dorm, and my other friends were upset that I hadn't named fish after them, so rachelle, libby and ryan ended up swimming in a bowlful of meg, and we keep joe's marbles in teh bottom so he doesn't lose them!
